We HAVE Got To Do Better (6.26.08)
There is a certain level of responsibility and accountability when you become of age and continue to age and mature. When you understand the difference between right and wrong then you are instilled to understand the consequence of any decision you make.
Women, that does not mean that you can show your behind and think a man’s going to take your seriously. Yes, I understand we live in a society that isn’t open to a women’s sexuality unless that sexuality is being exploited; however, there is no rhyme or reason why we should compromise the person we are to appease another.
Men, that does not mean you can wear your pride and ego on your shoulder as if you’re “the ish”, yet not accept your responsibility when that same pride and ego backfires. Yes, I understand the world is at most times against you, but instead of proving everyone right please prove everyone wrong.
That means women put on some clothes. Talk as if you have common and book sense. Respect yourself and everyone around you will have no choice but to respect you as well. If you want a problem solved don’t complain about the issue, fix the problem. And women, not ALL problems are meant to be solved. Yes, I understand we are pressured to be Superwomen but that doesn’t mean we have to take on that responsibility. We can’t save the world. We CAN hope that our actions affect others around us and lead to positive change. However, it is neither here nor there that a person (a man at that) will ever change for you. Let it go and give it to God. Stop holding on to the bad. Release it so that your arms can receive the good.
That means men, stop sleeping around. If you do then wear a condom. AND if she becomes pregnant then handle your responsibility. Don’t shy away from spilled milk when you had no problem filling the glass that fell to begin with.
People, children of the ghetto, I’m tired of you all immortalizing rappers, singers, drugs, rims, etc. Obtain something of value like some real estate. Don’t nobody care that you rep Hillside. Hillside don’t even care that you rep it. When your blood smears its streets it does not cry; it is emotionally unattached. Cars do not appreciate. The projects are not legitimate real estate. It is time for us to OWN our future, not simply take part in it.
While ignorance has been noted to bring bliss, who wants it? Who wants the unconscious benefits of stupidity? We must educate ourselves so that we know better, so that we can be better. DO BETTER!
I don’t even know while I feel impassioned about this tonight. However, I’m tired of fighting the good fight while seeing others not fight at all. OR seeing others adopt the crab in the bucket mentality. When one shows you the way it isn’t so that you can knock them back down to your level; it is so that you too can take the path to acquire your freedom. Sure we are free, but how many of us actually OWN our freedom?
