Have you ever tried to negotiate with God?
Years ago I let my son choose us a house to live in. I decided to change the floors with some marble tile and the contractor hired 3 men to do the work. On the second day, I met them and it turns out that it was a preacher, Reverend Brown and his 2 sons that were laying the tile. I had just returned from picking up a pair of custom made black alligator boots. Oh, they were perfect and I could not wait to wear them. I went back into the bedroom and sat in my easy chair to watch a football game. Just as I got all relaxed and comfortable, softly but clearly God said, "give those boots to the Reverend". I turned around looking and said, "What" I did get a little scarred, I'm not going to lie. I knew it was the voice of God and I said, "but God I just got those boots and I paid a lot of money for them too". God said, "go get those boots off the shelf and give them to reverend Brown." I said, "awh nawh God, those are my favorite boots and I haven't even worn them. Can't I at least wear them first"? God said, "give him the boots before he leaves". Ok, so I got up went into the closet looked on the shelf and right besides those boots were some black Florsheim shoes that I had only worn a couple of times. They were just like new. You guessed it, I took those instead, walked out of the room and up to Reverend Brown and said, "Reverned Brown God told me to give you these shoes". Reverend Brown looked at me and said, "Mr. Anderson are you sure you want to give me those shoes". I said, "yes reverend, God wants you to have them". The reverend was so happy to get those shoes until he sat down and tried them on. They were a perfect fit. He and his sons shook my hand and left for the day. I went back into my room and sat down, thinking I had down a good deed. Just as I was about to get back into the game, the voice of God says," you did not do what I told you. I told you to give the reverend those black alligator boots". God knew they were gators too. I said, "but God I gave him a brand new pair of shoes". God then said, "then he shall have 2 pair of shoes. Tomorrow give the Reverend those shoes as soon as he comes in". I saw that I could not win with God and negotiating was out of the question. The next day as soon as Reverend Brown walked in I met him and gave him my black alligator boots. The reverend could not believe it. He looked at the boots and called his sons over to look at them. He looked at me and said, "Thanks brother Anderson, you have made my day." I'd like to say it felt good giving my boots away, but it didn't. I did not feel good about it because I was out of 2 pairs of shoes. About a year later I ran into a lady who knew me and attended Reverend Browns church. She told me that Reverend Brown tells everybody about this Mr. Anderson who gave him 2 pairs of shoes just when he needed some. She went on to tell me that the Reverend wears the boots every Sunday. Well that made me feel better. A few years later I was able to buy another pair of black Alligator boots. I like them much better than the ones I gave to Reverend Brown and so far God has not told me to give them away to anybody, but if He did, I would without question.
